Custom Wood Privacy Fence Built for Backyard Peace and Pets

Some backyards just need a boundary. Not for looks - for function. Whether it's keeping the dog in, keeping the neighbors out, or just carving out a space that actually feels like yours, a well-built fence changes how you use your yard entirely.

This is a custom wood privacy fence we built to do exactly that. The property backs up to a wooded area, and the homeowner wanted a secure, private space where they and their dog could actually relax. We ran the fence line across a generous stretch of the backyard, working with the natural grade of the land to keep everything level and tight from post to post.

The double gate in the center is one of our favorite details on this one. It's wide enough to be genuinely useful - easy access for mowers, furniture, or just letting the dog out without squeezing through a narrow opening. Both gate panels are cross-braced on the back for long-term structural support, which is something that gets skipped on a lot of DIY and budget installs. That bracing keeps the gates from sagging or racking over time.

We used treated lumber throughout, with rounded dog-ear pickets that give it a clean, classic look. The spacing between pickets is tight enough for real privacy without making the fence feel like a wall. It's a balance that works well - you get the enclosure without feeling boxed in.
